Hi everybody! So as some of you may already know, I recently went on a trip to Oahu with some of my amazing family. I had so much fun, and I am so excited to return! This post is going to be a short one, but I am going to talk about how I prepared for this awesome trip! Come along with me…
Step 1: Shopping
A week or two before I left, my mom and I went on a road trip to Portland, OR to do some preparation shopping for Oahu. We set a clean budget of things that were necessary for a tropical vacation like Hawaii. If we didn’t do this, we would most likely come home with random things that were NOT necessary for a tropical vacation! Some of the things on my list were a travel book, a hat, and sunglasses. I got all of these things while in PDX, and I left feeling accomplished. Even if it is one thing, I think it is a lot of fun to bring something(s) with you traveling that correspond with where you are going. If you are headed to Alaska, you may be bring a cozy jacket, if you are headed to Hawaii, you may bring some flip-flops!
Step 2: Pack lightly
When I was a little bit younger, I would always pack too much stuff – and I once I arrived at my final destination I had way too much stuff. Because of this I set a goal to pack lightly from that point on. Below are the things I brought in each of my two bags.
– Cheeze Its (Can’t go anywhere without them!)
– a fold up blanket
3-4 Outfits (Varys on how many days your staying)
I find this method is the best for me, it is really minimalistic and helps me stay organized. It is important to remember that the amount of stuff you bring definitely varies on how long you are staying and the other circumstances of your trip. It is also nice when you have a washer/dryer machine in your resort, or wherever else you are staying. In Oahu I had this, so I could clean my clothes to reuse on the same trip!
3. Some packing tips!
I am all into organization, so I have lots of fun while packing for trips! Here are some of my favorite packing tips:
1. Put jewelry into a pill organizer – it prevents it from getting tangled!
2. Rolling clothes helps save a lot of space.
3. If you have any makeup products or skincare products going with you in a checked bag, you can take the screw/lid off and put a layer of parchment paper on and screw the lid back on. If the product explodes this will prevent it from flying out and getting on all your other things.
4. Pack empty water bottle
Pack an empty water bottle with you on trips. This way you can fill it up with the water fountains once you get past security, and you won’t have to worry about buying a water bottle.
5. Unpacking Right Away When Arrived In Destination
For the first time ever, I unpacked my clothes and everything else on this trip! Because I travel often, I had never done this and have been fine living out of a suitcase temporarily. On this trip I didn’t pack much, and whatever I packed I unpacked right away. This helped a lot, and made getting ready in the morning a lot easier!
